Happy New Year 2011

In this post. I am going to say "HAPPY NEW YEAR" for all you=) Just like the image above, let's leave all the bad things behind and let's enter the new year of 2011 with a fresh mind and a happy soul. Here's one quote that I found about how you can carry yourself in this world. I was amazed when reading this quote by John O'Donohue is a poet and Hegelian philosopher from Ireland. It's not a long writing but surely can help you to make a great first day of a new year ahead by having some kind of a mind-blowing thought...Hope 2010 has been a good year for you and hopefully 2011 will be a better year for all of us. Happy New Year. Happy Holiday...xoxo

"No one else has access to the world you carry around within yourself; you are its custodian and entrance. No one else can see the world the way you see it. No one else can feel your life the way you feel it. Thus it is impossible to ever compare two people because each stands on such different ground. When you compare yourself to others, you are inviting envy into your consciousness; it can be a dangerous and destructive guest."
- John O'Donohue (Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom) -

Making New Year's Resolution

New year is coming very soon. Several days from now we'll be entering the year 2011. Don't you feel time has gone so fast? Speaking of new year, it's a common thing for us to make new year resolutions. Have you got your new year's resolutions? I used to have very specific resolutions back then but now my new year's resolution is simply to be a better person in every aspect of my life. I stumbled upon this tips tips to make new years resolutions from lessons4living.com. So, for those of you who haven't got any new year's resolutions, maybe these tips will help =)

"Making Resolutions - New Year’s Resolutions."

The beginning of a New Year is the traditional time to make resolutions. A resolution is a formal expression of intent to change. It declares your resolve and determination to be different. A New Year is a new start and can be a good time to assess yourself. What would you like to change?

So, there are three possible resolutions to be made for the New Year. Commitments to change something in the areas of the mind, body, and spirit. Here are some tips to help along the way.

  • Don’t be too ambitious. Don’t set yourself up to fail. Set goals that are reasonable and reachable.
  • Look at a resolution as an opportunity to do something exciting and new and not as a task of drudgery.
  • Tell others about the resolutions you are making. When we tell others what we plan it increases our motivation to do it.

Prayers..

How often do you say a prayer when you really want something so bad? How do you feel when in the end your prayers have been answered? Let's say that your prayer has been answered...do you think it's because God think that you deserve something you've been asking or is it because you have found ways to get you to the thing you've been asking for? Which one do you think is right? I think it's both right. Our prayers are answered because we believe that we can get there. It's all about the power of prayer and believing it.

Within ourselves there a great power of believing something that is within our reach, that is possible for us to make it come true. But what's more important is what will happen afterward. We can't forget about how grateful it is when our prayers finally have been answered. You know how it feels when you finally realized that little by little the prayers have been answered.

Being fully grateful is the most important thing that we have to do as a human being. It makes us realize that we are not left behind this world...makes us realize that God has been thinking about us too =)

man cannot live in health without them

Cozy Bus Shelter by IKEA

Advertising campaign nowadays keep getting more and more creative. Including this IKEA campaign I found via freshome. Since the first time I know Ikea, it always had a creative advertising campaign. Last time it was the billboard that wrote the word LOVE by using the Ikea furniture, the other time Ikea was making a campaign by designing a train using Ikea fabrics. This time it's a "bus stop" advertising campaign in Paris. It turns bus shelter into small cozy lounge. Don't you just think it's unique and creative? =)

Gypsy Decor...

Are you the one who loves simple decor or the one who's prefer a "busy" or "energetic" room decor? If you're prefer my second option, then this decor is your perfect choice. It's called "Gypsy Farm", located in Sussex (1.5 hours from south London). Found this place from AirSpaces. The farmhouse has three barns and it is surely a country home style. I love the clutter and the various colors of all the furnitures. It feels to me that the owner was not afraid to put all kinds of furniture on one room. And the result is amazing...

Fate is like a small sandstorm

So, the continue yesterday's topic about fate, I found this amazing and thoughtful paragraphs about fate written by Haruki Murakami from one of his books, Kafka on the Shore. Haruki Murakami a Japanese writer who often writes about a story that can make your mind jump out of your common thoughts. I love all of his works. I often just browse on his quotes from parts of his books just to refresh my mind about this life. His writes unique stories with thoughtful words and sentences that I often read several times because the sentences are so good. Do you know the feeling when you got goosebumps reading some of the great writings? Not goosebumps in a spooky way but those that can blow one's mind. I can feel goosebumps reading the paragraphs below. This one is about fate.

“Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn’t something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do is give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn’t get in, and walk through it, step by step. There’s no sun there, no moon, no direction, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up into the sky like pulverized bones. That’s the kind of sandstorm you need to imagine.

An you really will have to make it through that violent, metaphysical, symbolic storm. No matter how metaphysical or symbolic it might be, make no mistake about it: it will cut through flesh like a thousand razor blades. People will bleed there, and you will bleed too. Hot, red blood. You’ll catch that blood in your hands, your own blood and the blood of others.

And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” Haruki Murakami (Kafka on the Shore)

Our own FATE

Have you ever wonder about what FATE really is about? Lately I've been thinking about it. I wonder whether fate is merely there for us and waiting for us until we get there or it's actually us who build our own fate. Is it written or we get a chance to write our own fate? Can we write or design our own path? What do you think? When I look up the dictionary, it defines fate as:
  • The supposed force, principle, or power that predetermines events
  • The inevitable events predestined by this force.
  • A final result or consequence; an outcome.
  • Unfavorable destiny; doom.
It says a lot about one short word, fate. I do believe in fate though. I believe that all of us has already got our own written and pre-destined life, but that doesn't mean that we can change it. We can change it to a better way that we want to. Although there are certain parts that we might not be able to change. Here's something I found about believing in fate:

To believe in fate, you must believe or accept that you have no idea what is going on, but someone or something does. If you believe that the universe is guided by some unseen force with some form of an ultimate plan, whatever that may be, you have to accept that you don't understand that plan, you don't know that plan, and you'll never understand that plan. (via)

It's all up to you whether you want to believe or not to believe in fate. After all, I do believe that we have to be responsible to write our own life story with God leading us the right way and giving us the best options that we can choose.

Morning Person..

Simple question: "Are you a morning person?". What will your answer be? I can say that I am a morning person. I wake up early to do a morning prayer and then I go back to sleep for an hour and I wake up when the sun just about to rise. I love the feeling of doing nothing and just to watch the black sky turn to gray and finally turn to a clear blue morning sky. It feels like walking into a different world. And what makes it better is when you are able to hear the bird singing in the morning. Such a fresh start to enter the new day. I love to neat the clutter in my house early in the morning so when everyone finally wake up, all the rooms are clean and neat. Therefore everyone can start their day in a good start just to see the house clean and neat. I hope this does not sound too cocky haha. However, on the weekends I also love to sleep a couple of hours longer =)

If you're not sure whether you're a morning person or not, take the quiz here. Just for fun and just to see whether you're a morning and night person. I took the quiz...and guess what, the results said that I am a morning person:

You Are a Morning Person

You're optimistic, alert, and full of energy to start the day.
While you would love to party all night, you rather be up at the crack of dawn.
You don't procrastinate or spend time worry about what to do next.
You take life by the reigns, and you like to have an early start.

A Cup Of Chocolate...

This chocolate drink recipe might be useful for holiday season. And what's good about this recipe is that you can store the drink for up to 2 weeks. You can also give this as a gift to family and friend =) Isn't it great? The reason why I am posting this recipe is because on the last several days, the wind blows so hard and I always feel like having a cup of hot chocolate, not warm but hot. I always love to just stay at home watching the tube or read a good book and the hot chocolate is a really good substitute for a comforting drink if you think you've had too many cups of coffee for the day. So I was browsing along the web and stumbled upon this recipe on Project Foodie, and this one is called Mexican Drinking Chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 pounds (20 ounces) bittersweet chocolate (61 to 66 percent cacao), finely chopped
  • 2 1/4 cups heavy (whipping) cream
  • 2 soft, plump whole vanilla beans, split and scraped
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground chipotle chile powder
  • ¼ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract

  • Implements: Four (½-Pint) Decorative Glass Jars with Tight-Fitting Lids, Kitchen Scale, Cutting Board, Chef's Knife, Large Heatproof Glass or Stainless-Steel Bowl, Measuring Cups and Spoons, Paring Knife, Medium Saucepan, Silicone Spatula. Prep Time: 20 minutes. Cook Time: 5 minutes. Makes four (½-pint) jars of drinking chocolate.

Directions:
  1. Wash the jars, including the lids, in hot, soapy water and dry thoroughly. Alternatively, run the jars through the regular cycle of your dishwasher; wash the lids by hand.
  2. Place the chocolate in a large heatproof bowl. Set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan over low heat, bring the cream, vanilla beans (seeds and pods), cinnamon, and chipotle chile to a boil, stirring frequently. Remove from the heat. Using a silicone spatula, press the vanilla pods against the side of the pan to remove any remaining seeds and cream. Discard the pods.
  4. Immediately pour the cream mixture over the chocolate, stirring constantly until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Add the corn syrup and almond extract, stirring until incorporated.
  5. Pour the chocolate ganache into the prepared jars, dividing it evenly and leaving ½ inch headspace. Wipe the rims clean and secure the lids. Label and refrigerate.

  • Storing: Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
  • Gift-Giving Tips: Tie each jar with raffia or ribbon and attach a recipe card. To turn this into a gift basket, consider including small mugs or even cappuccino cups and saucers, along with a fine-mesh shaker filled with a specialty cocoa powder for dusting the top of the drinks.

Balance your life..

Hello Monday..Hello You =) How's weekend everyone? Did you have a great time? I went to my friend's wedding which happen to be a cousin of my boyfriend. It was so nice to be able to meet families and relatives..old and new faces =) The wedding was a typical traditional Indonesian wedding, West Sumatra in particular. So here I am thinking that what a difference a week made. On those workdays, all you do is just work work work...and on weekend, it's all about meeting families and friends and socializing. I really agree on the balance between work and life.

After all life is all about balancing your activities. What good will it be if you succeed in your career but you don't have time for your loved ones and friends? I wouldn't do such thing. What I want in life is just simple..to be happy doing my job and to be able to spend time with families and friends. Here's an article written by Erika Rasmusson Janes about balanced life from Marie Claire.

5 Ways to Live a More Balanced Life - How to balance work, play, and rest.

1. FORCE YOUR BRAIN TO DRAW A LINE BETWEEN WORK AND HOME.
"Your ability to do a good job at work depends on whether you have a personal lif
e that refreshes and restores you," says social psychologist Jane Adams. If you can't stop thinking about work after you leave the office, create a mental filing cabinet. "Sit down in a quiet place, open it, and deal with your work worries. Then, mentally close the cabinet and do something else," she suggests. Try this on Fridays before leaving the office for the weekend — or each night. Mentally lock the cabinet, if necessary.

2. LEAVE MULTITASKING AT THE OFFICE.
You may subconsciously take your office habits — especially multitasking — home with you. You might find yourself washing dishes while phoning your mom, or checking your BlackBerry while in a movie. "We've become so used to living in overdrive that we take it as normal, but ou
r bodies don't," says stress expert Kathleen Hall. To balance work, play, and rest, write down five ways work blends into your playtime. Then, choose one to focus on. If you obsessively check your BlackBerry during your time off, cut back — first by half, then more until you get it down to once a night. By transforming mindless habits into conscious choices, you'll limit your body's stress and gain control of your day — and night.

3. MAKE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF YOUR PROFESSION.
To lead a more fulfilling personal life, expand your exposure to people you don't work with, says Douglas Rushkoff, author of Get Back in the Box: Innovation from the Inside Out. Otherwise, you'll constantly be pushed into the role you play at the office. Sign up for an art class, or at yoga, introduce yourself to the woman who's downward-dogging next to you.

4. PUT A TIME LIMIT ON YOUR TALK ABOUT WORK.
If all of your friends work in your industry, set rules when you socialize. Agree to vent, gossip, or strategize for a specific amount of time — say, 10 minutes — and appoint a timekeeper. When the allotted number of minutes is up, deliberately switch the topic — to anything from politics to Paris Hilton.

5. MAKE HOME YOUR SANCTUARY.
To prevent work from invading your home, create a personal project — it will help you recharge and relax but still feel active. Buy canvases and paint, make CDs for friends, or begin a home-improvement project, says Christine Hassler, a life coach for 20-something women. Another tip: Consider cooking. Eating meals in your own kitchen makes your home feel less like a hotel.
